Failed Tri Training Attempt

by Johannes SchlorbA group of us gathered under dark skies at 7 in the morning, excited for an open water swim practice. Although the weather looked ominous, we ventured out for the 15 minute drive to the reservoir. Still waiting for one of our group to show up, three of us headed for the campground bathrooms on the other side of the lake to relieve our anxious bowels. After being detained momentarily by a drunk 30-some year-old, chain smoking lady with a foul mouth, the real storm blew in.
Wind and rain began pelting the truck as we made our way back to the start point. After meeting up with our trailing member, we cracked our windows to determine how anxious we were to venture into the whitecaps. The banter went back and forth until pounding thunder made up our minds for us. Where there is thunder there is lightening. And where there is lightening there is no swimming.
The thunder was actually a welcome excuse for those less courageous of the group. It was our easy out. Looks like we'll have to give it another go.
