On the Road: Driving in Bare Feet
Saturday, July 31, 2010 at 8:54AM I've been on the road with my brother and three kids for the past few days. Making our way to the Outdoor Retailer Show in Salt Lake City, Utah, we decided to take the scenic route through Glacier National Park to Missoula (where we camped overnight in a WalMart parking lot) and then through winding roads of a number of National Forests. We took a breather at my sister's house in Boise for a day and a half after sneaking along the Payette Riveer South of McCall. Now, on to Utah...
Driving in bare feet has been completely comfortable, even for the twenty-some hours of pedal pushing, no sweating or discomfort and increased sensitivity to the vehicle. The only issues have been public washrooms and blistering hot asphalt. For the first problem, I simply avoid the wet spots as best as I can, and I scuff my feet across shop mats on my way out of the gas station. For the second problem, I simply hop around quickly, dashing for either the carpet mats of the van or air conditioned flooring of the store.
