Having a Baby in Vibram FiveFingers: It's a Girl!

No, the baby wasn't born with FiveFingers on. I was the one wearing them, walnut brown classics, and they looked great with scrubs. Perhaps Vibram's kids line, coming out in the spring, will have something small enough for her when she gains a few pounds.
Before I go any farther, I want to honor the brave women who risk their lives to bring children into this world, this being the fourth time that my wife, Gen, has made such a sacrifice. And sacrifice it is...
First, there's the nausea, the lack of sleep, the pressurized bladder, the emotional roller coaster, the not-so-always-understanding husbands, the back aches, the cravings, the continuos discomfort, and the list goes on. When it is time for the baby to come, added risk appears in the form of extreme pain, bleeding, infection, etc. When the baby is born the real work begins, more sleepless nights, nursing, crying, etc.

Thank goodness for a mother's love.

After a full day of waiting, it was time to go into the operating room. We didn't know whether or not we were having a boy or girl. We didn't care. We just wanted a healthy baby and for Gen to get through things with minimal distress.
It didn't take long before Briley Dawn popped out to say hello. Seven and a half pounds, twenty-one inches, and perfect feet. Who would want to ruin those perfect little feet with shoes?
